What mastering actually does (and what it doesn’t)
Mastering is the final check before release, and it’s not just about making it loud. It’s about making your track translate — car, laptop, club, earbuds — without losing what makes it special.
What mastering does
- Balances the frequency spectrum
- Controls dynamics across the full programme
- Sets loudness targets for your platform (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, broadcast)
- Cleans up clicks or harsh resonances
- Handles metadata and delivery formats (streaming, CD, vinyl)
What mastering doesn’t do
- It doesn’t rebuild a mix from scratch
- It can’t fix arrangement or performance issues
- It doesn’t replace a good mix
Think of mastering as quality control with polish — not a rescue mission. If your mix needs more work, we’ll tell you before we charge you for mastering.
